The Power of Words

Ephesians 4:29- Let no corruption talk come out of your mouths, but only such as is good for building up, as fits the occasion, that it may give grace to those who hear.

The word “corrupt” means bad or rotten, or even one that tends to corrupt others, and can also be applied to trees that produce no good fruit; nothing good comes of them. When we speak, we should not speak anything that can corrupt us, or even those around us. We should always speak words of truth, righteousness, and encouragement. If our maker, who we were made to be in likeness of, is pure, then we should also be pure. It also says to use words that are good for building up, which will be encouraging and uplifting to those around us! Our words are powerful, and we must make sure that in everything we say, we are representing the almighty and that we won’t say anything that will hurt others. When a person that has Christ speaks, it will give grace to those who hear. We should always seek for the words that come out of our mouths to be acceptable to God. We will be as a vessel, in which God will be the one telling us what to say, and we will therefore be a blessing to everyone around us!

God, please give us the wisdom to speak only words of truth and grace, and words that will be a blessing to others. Thank you for being the greatest example of this, and help us be more like you in all we say, think, and do. Amen.
